When communication has broken down, it can be difficult to see a way forward. Mediation creates a structured space where each person can be heard, the issues can be clarified and possible solutions can be explored.

Unlike a court or tribunal, the mediator does not take sides or impose a decision. You remain responsible for the choices you make and any agreement you reach.

Calm, impartial guidance when conversations become difficult

I’m Colleen Gleeson, principal mediator at Encompass Mediation. I provide a calm, supported process in which people have the opportunity to be heard and work towards decisions that are practical for their circumstances.

My role is not to judge, take sides or decide who is right. I guide the conversation, help clarify the issues and support everyone involved to consider possible ways forward.

I’m an accredited mediator and a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. My background spans family dispute resolution, human resources, community services, and financial and banking services.

No. You can speak with Colleen privately before approaching anyone else. If mediation appears suitable, she can explain how the other person may be invited to participate.

Generally, yes. Colleen usually speaks privately with each participant before mediation to understand the issues, explain the process and assess whether mediation is appropriate.

Mediation is generally voluntary, so another person cannot usually be forced to participate. Colleen can explain the available next steps, including any different requirements that apply to Family Dispute Resolution.

An individual intake and assessment costs $380 per person, excluding GST. The joint mediation session costs $750 per person, excluding GST. Any additional costs, such as room hire, will be discussed before appointments are confirmed.

Mediation is generally a private and confidential process. Colleen will explain the confidentiality requirements and any exceptions before mediation begins.

That depends on the type of dispute and how the agreement is documented. Colleen can explain the available options, but participants may need independent legal advice before formalising an agreement.

Yes. Encompass Mediation offers sessions by video and telephone, as well as face-to-face mediation in Rockingham.

Encompass Mediation is based in Rockingham, Western Australia. Sessions may be held face to face, by video or by telephone, depending on the circumstances and needs of the people involved.

Online mediation also makes the service accessible when participants live in different locations or meeting in person is not practical.

Flexible appointments, including some after-hours and weekend sessions, are available.
